Friday in the ER we got our first IV (ever). It was a success on the first try! (see first first blog post about this hospital stay )
Satuday night the first iv clotted. We had three nurses, me and Clint holding my poor man down trying to get an iv. The nurses werent interested in our request for child life to come down and help again, or our request for the magic cream (numbs) They just wanted to get it done. Three sticks, three fails, then the final one "worked" we had one it. It slipped out 3 times and was salvaged until surgery time. At surgery they put a new one in while he was still under anesthesia.
The surgery iv lasted til this am and started to infiltrate. Which I think it has been since yesterday afternoon becasue he cries the whole time the iv antibiotics run because it hurts. Just a bit ago we went for another one. I was not looking forward to it because Clint had gone home to get more clothes. Clint and I had already told them we wanted child life there. And the PICC nurse came with ultrasound so she could be certaion she was in a good spot. We had no trouble this time, my man was big and strong the whole time. He still told the lady he didn't like her, but he did good. They didnt use magic cream, but did use some cold spray that was "cold like snow" and helped numb it. Im so proud of my strong little man.
I pray this all ends soon....
